Red Burgundy - 1955

Meteorological data: good weather conditions overall, except in June, when cold delayed flowering. Good weather for the harvest.

Harvest status: beginning of October.

Quality: healthy grapes.

Overall quality of the vintage: good. The Côte de Nuit wines are deep but short, the Côte de Beaune light. Drink now.

White Burgundy - 1955

Overall quality of the vintage: very good. Elegant and well-balanced wines, but today past their best.

Red Bordeaux - 1955

Meteorological data: a very mild February. Cold and frosty in March. Good flowering conditions. A lovely summer, with a perfect July. Welcome rain in September.

Harvest status: Dates: good conditions from September 22nd.

Quality: nice plump grapes.

Overall quality of the vintage: very good. Most of the wines are less successful than those of 1953. However, the best are excellent, still perfect and have kept well. The others should be drunk soon.

White Bordeaux - 1955

Meteorological data: a lovely July. Heat and drought in August. Harvest status: Dates:

Abundance: big harvest.

Quality: very good.

Overall quality of the vintage: very good. The best vintage of the mid-1950s. Very well-balanced wines. Now past their best.

Syrupy Bordeaux - 1955

Meteorological data: very good weather conditions. Welcome rain in September.

Harvest status: Dates: early, September 21st. The harvest goes on into a fine, dry October.

Abundance: high.

Quality: good. Good noble rot.

Overall quality of the vintage: excellent. Almost perfect wines. The best are still good, even if they are now on the  decline.

Champagne - 1955

Meteorological data: favourable conditions, with sun and showers.

Harvest status: Dates: from September 29th and the beginning of October.

Abundance: high.

Quality: very high quality grapes.

Overall quality of the vintage: very good. Firm wines, drier than the previous vintage. These wines are now past their peak, but can still be a pleasure to drink.

Rhone Valley - 1955

Made from perfectly ripe  grapes, rich in "natural sugar", these are good wines that easily pass the test of 10 to 15 years of ageing as great red wines. Châteauneuf-du-Pape keeps its colour and spicy aromas for a long time

Alsace - 1955

The harvest volume is average, but the superb weather and the excellent quality grapes give rise, here too, to superb late harvests.
