Red Burgundy - 1947

Meteorological data: excellent weather conditions. Warm summer.

Harvest status: from September 16th.

Abundance: grapes are scarce.

Quality: high natural degree; perfect health. Grapes chockfull of sugar. Capricious, lengthy fermentation in very hot weather.

Overall quality of the vintage: very good. Ripe wines, immediate charm, but also with good ageing potential: some may still be good.

White Burgundy - 1947

Harvest status: very good weather conditions, early ripening.

Overall quality of the vintage: very good. Rich and round wines that develop fast; almost all were drunk young. They can still be delicious.

Red Bordeaux - 1947

Meteorological data: late and favourable spring. Warm summer. An almost tropical climate. Harvest status: Dates: from September 19th.

Quality: extremely high sugar content, and grapes almost too ripe. Vinification made difficult by the heat.

Overall quality of the vintage: excellent. Generous, supple, ripe and fleshy wines. Often marked by acidity, they are nonetheless rich and heady. Best drunk now, before the acidity dominates.

Bordeaux White - 1947

Meteorological data: Hot summer

Overall quality of the vintage: Very good. Delicate and ripe wines, which can still be good.

Syrupy Bordeaux - 1947

Meteorological data: great heat at harvest time.

Harvest status: Dates: from 15 September.

Overall quality of the vintage: Excellent. A very great year, rich and ripe. Superb wines, but which can sometimes have a touch of acidity.

Champagne - 1947

Meteorological data: very fine summer, with record sunshine in August. Excellent conditions for the harvest.

Harvest status: Dates: early harvest, from September 5th.

Abundance: lower than average volume due to the lack of rain.

Quality: very good.

Overall quality of the vintage: very good. Rich, captivating and delicately fruity wines which have kept well.

Rhone Valley - 1947

Meteorological data: very sunny year. Good harvest conditions.

Harvest status: Dates: early harvest.

Quality: very good. Grapes ripen perfectly, naturally high in alcohol.

Overall quality of the vintage: very good. Some fine, generous and captivating wines, well constituted and with good ageing potential. Still enjoyable today.

Jura - 1947

Meteorological data: mild winter, without frost or snow, followed by a fine and early spring. Good flowering. Dry and warm weather until autumn.

Harvest status: Dates: early harvest.

Quality: good. Vinification made difficult by the heat.

Overall quality of the vintage: very fine. Well-balanced wines and good acidity. Complex bouquet. Considerable ageing potential.

Meteorological data: a sunny year. Good conditions for the harvest.
