MUSCAT DE BEAUMES-DE-VENISE

North of the Vaucluse and Carpentras, the appellation covers the town of Beaumes-de-Venise and part of Aubignan. Enjoying a Mediterranean climate, it produces sweet wines with a golden robe. The young wines offer exotic notes, mellowing towards honey after a few years of cellaring. Cultivated as far back as the Gallo-Roman era, the Muscat vine was nicknamed the "bee vine" by Roman naturalist Pliny the Elder for the highly palatable sweet wines it produces.
