VACQUEYRAS

The appellation covers just over 1,400 hectares in the communes of Vacqueyras and Sarrians. The Vacqueyras are mainly red wines, more concentrated than the Côtes du Rhone Villages and nicely balanced. Grenache is the most widely grown grape variety in the appellation, and gives the wine its deep colour and opulence. The appellation is fairly recent since it only obtained its label in 1990, although vines have been grown here since the Middle Ages.
