Winemaker of the month

We are pleased for introducing to Joseph Colin’s new eponymous domain. This young estate reached its first grape harvest in 2016 when he stopped working at his father’s original winery, Marc Colin. In harmony with his brother Damien and his sister Caroline, who work in the family estate’s modern winery. Joseph marks a break in the vinification of his new estate after successful preliminary tests His wines are produced in a similar way to those of the Marc Colin & sons Domain (Domaine Marc Colin & ses Fils). However; the novelty is that he presses whole bunches and places them in casks without decanting or adding any sulphites.  Sulphur dioxide is only added as the wine is bottled.  He acknowledges that wines with higher amounts of sulphur more tightly knit.  But, for him, the tension comes from the sulphur, not the terroir. And Colin is happy with what he describes as a “certain immediacy” which comes from a farming method that uses very little sulphur. With seven hectares of vineyards, he produces nineteen astonishing cuvées. He is a new player on the Burgundian scene who will be very interesting to follow, further increasing the number of stars of the Colin family first class in the firmament of Burgundian’s white wines.
